The movie is slated to be released on June 24, 2009 on conventional theaters and IMAX. It is being distributed by DreamWorks Pictures (Paramount) internationally and is still directed by Michael Bay who also directed the first live-action film and is joined by screenwriters: Ehren Kruger, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
The casts include Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Tyrese Gisbon, Josh Duhamel, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, John Benjamin Hickey, Ramon Rodriguez, Isabel Lucas, John Turturo and other supporting characters and those that have voiced the Autobots and Decepticons.
The success of the first science fiction film Transformers paved the way to the production and release of its sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The movie started with Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf), the teenage hero who killed Megatron discovering about the origins of the Transformers and their historical accounts on Earth. This time Sam attends an East Coast college taking up an astronomy course. For the valuable information that he has, Sam becomes a target for capture of the evil Decepticons.
New twists and scenes were given emphasis in the movie like the variety of countries involved and featured in the movie. Some of which were actual locations presented in the film. The most important is Egypt where the climactic battle took place at the Giza pyramid complex. The temple located within the complex is one of the venues shown in the movie.
According to film producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the film depicts the visit of the Transformers in Egypt way back before the great pyramids were even built. An amazing concept will also show the Egyptian hieroglyphs which resembles helicopters and other present day, real-life vehicles; all of these will be explained in the film as depictions of what they consider the Ancient Cybertronians who paid a visit in our planet millions of years ago.
The storyline reiterated by Bay explained that the battle in Mission City in the first film did not expose the Transformers to the people. In lieu with the idea that nobody would really talk about something, no matter how big it has been, the Transformers follow the same pattern. In the movie, government tackles on military thing, insisted the fallacy of the things that people saw, even regarded them as jokes and nonsense.
Human soldiers establish a joint force with the Autobots’ rank in a team called NEST (Networked Elements: Supporters and Transformers). This reality of robot sightings was also veiled by a government front called McClaren Robotics with the Allspark shard carefully and cautiously stored in Diego Garcia.
Aside from the technical crew which supported the film, the cast and characters of the movie are also worth mentioning. As implied earlier, there are new major characters in the film which would make it much more interesting and fun. The cast of characters are as follows:
Sam Witwicky, the main character played by Shia LaBeouf; Mikaela Banes, Sam’s girlfriend who cannot afford to go to college with him played by Megan Fox. The Autobots still composed of the leader Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and three feminine Autobots among others and the Decepticons lead by Megatron who was revived by his legions in this sequel.
